In my last YouTube video, I've shown you 5 tricks for better glue-ups. Here you can see me using alignment aids to keep the panels flush.

Many Euro hinges come with a handy paper template that you can use to lay out all the necessary hole locations. I did that and realised I bought the wrong hinges. They make the door flush with the outside of the cabinet but I needed them to end in the center of the side boards thickness. The drawer box fronts would be on the other half. It was a sunday and a trip to the hardware store was not possible. I made some spacers out of plywood and said that I would get the right hinges later. I will probably never do that...⁠
Then I used the old playing card trick to space the drawer fronts and screwed them on. ⁠
To attach the acrylic glass to the door I used construction glue.⁠
I had a bunch of Oak offcuts that made great drawer handles and screwed them on as well.⁠
A quick clear coat of finish and the cabinet was ready to go.⁠
The plug of the router motor had to go and I routed the cables in the inside of the cabinet to the main switch. ⁠
The last sequence is me installing the LED lights for the inside of the cabinet. Totally unnecessary, but somehow cool.⁠

As the top I chose a 21mm baltic birch ply with white melamine on both sides. To prevent chip out I covered the areas that will be routed into with painters tape.⁠
The router lift plate had 6mm radiuses on the corners and by using a 12mm bit the corners would fit easily.⁠
I used offcuts with tape around it as spacers that account for the busing on the router base, to set up the @festool_deuschland MFS multi routing template (ad).⁠
After routing the outer perimeter, I drilled holes to insert the jig saw and saw out the rest.⁠
The fit for the plate is pretty snug and maybe a little bit tight.⁠

To route the recess for the acrylic glass panel into the door frame I pulled out the MFS multi routing template. I set it up and made quick work of it.⁠
I gave the cabinet a quick 220 grid sanding and when sanding the drawer fronts edges I ganged them up in order to not round over the corners and save some time.⁠
With OSMO's (ad) Wood Wax (3169) I turned the cabinet and drawer fronts black!⁠

To make the drawer boxes I pulled out the Domino Station and routed all the slots. I really like that jig and it enables you to bring the workpiece to the Domino instead of the other way around.⁠
The box bottoms are screwed on and make sure the box ends up square.⁠
Installing the drawer slides was pretty forward. I used a 12mm offcut to get the spacing just right. This way I worked my way through the drawer boxes.⁠

Joinery and glue-up⁠

For the joinery I took out the @festool_deutschland Domino and made quick work of it. Using the extension wings on it, makes the process soo much faster. I was really hesitant to use them but once I did, it made the process super quick. Give it a try, too!⁠
The glue-up was straight forward. Glue in the holes, Dominos in, assemble it and clamp it tight with the @besseytool_official ⁠

Router table build part 1⁠
Cutting the plywood ⁠

Finally, it was time to build a new router table! Luckily I bought the plywood before the prices skyrocketed. I pulled them out of the garage and used my @festool_deutschland (advertisement) STM 1800 and the TSC55 cordless saw to cut the sheets to a rough size. The STM makes it so easy and convenient to work with full sheets on a comfortable working height.⁠
Down in my shop I cut all parts to the final size on the table saw.⁠

Let's be REAL! 👊🏼⁠

Woodworking can be a pretty solitary hobby/profession. Most of the time, we, as woodworkers, spend a decent amount of time in our basement or garage with no contact to other people, and hence social distancing might be quite normal as a woodworker. ⁠
Last weekend I've been at the Leimholzfestival, where we, a group of seven woodworking guys and gals met up, built stuff, had a great time, and might have done a stupid thing or two along the way 😜(more about that in the next posts. Sneak peek in the last picture...).⁠
To be honest, this weekend made me realize how much I've missed woodworking with other people and how awesome it can be! ⁠💚
